Aasal Theatrical Trailer

I was pretty upset after watching the low quality print recorded from a theatre using camera phone. I compared it with Billa's trailer and went on dissing it at once. But, deep down I knew it can't go this bad and I just waited for the actual and high quality of the same. Guess, my wait has paid off.

I really liked it. Trailer simply looks slick and uber cool. All the frames chosen are very sylish and to me Billa's trailer still stands tall. Even though Aasal trailer is nowhere near Billa's, it has elements in it's own terms. Trailer opens up with Nadigar Thilagam offering pooja, "Sivaji Productions" title appears and the next frame shows our man's walk with camera focusing on legs. I couldn't take my eyes off stunning shots the trailer carries after that. The trailer really travels in a fast pace, and I just pray the whole movie to be like this.

What I like

1. Mr.Smart of Kollywood, looks handsome as usual. From the trailer alone, my primary concern, weight doesn't seems to be a problem. Thala looks perfect in all frames. Keeping my fingers crossed as Thala looks great throughout the flick. Just watch out for the mannerisms, style and charisma Ajith shows on screen. For example, take a lool again on the last portion, Ajith walking ala boxer.
In short, Thala Ajith - Screen Presence redefined...

2. It seems both the ladies have quite meaty roles to play as well as all five villains. Locations are fresh and pretty new to Thamizh audience - sure to lift the whole movie to one more level up. Costumes are another plus point. Be it villain or anyone whithin the frame, all look fantastic with their outfit.

3. A few dialogues uttered by protagonist are well penned and pretty sharp. The way Ajith delivers those dialogues is just too good. One can't deny the vast improvement of dialogue delivery and modulation of our man here.

  • Vaai tappu senjA, kannu kAtti koduthirum...

  • Ethiri kannukku agap padAma adikkanumnA, avan kaN imaiku adila pOyidanum...

  • There's one more line spoken by Sampath, one of the villains. Sort of glorifying our hero.

  • Yaar sonnAlum kEtka mAttAn. Thanakku serinu pattA, athu tappunnAlum atha seriyA pannuvAn...

  • 4. Looks like stunts are going to be major highlight of the movie. Heavy usage of bike, cars, jet, boat and the chases are impressive. Cameraman needs a special mention. Being the best cameraman's assistant, he managed to live up to it. I just curious to see how the song sequences are shot.

    5. I feel happy and proud at the same time, to see "Inay Iyakkam: Ajith Kumar" in the credit section.

    My Worries

    1. Background score is quite unimpressive. Besides, last few seconds - the vroom sounds of car engine and the way that sequence is shown, just reminds me of the recent James Bond flick. Hope Baradhwaj has done a decent job atleast to match up to the roaring visuals. On the other hand, re-recording work is impressive. Engine sounds, Looks like Baradhwaj has taken extra care in producing minor sounds, i.e knife part.

    2. Trailer carries a few 'gethu' walks of our Thala. Eventhough it will be cherished for sure by fans, hopefully the director would have not overdone it.

    3. There shouldn't be any room for "all style no substance" kind of statements.

    4. To me, the whole trailer and movie would have been in a different level had it been scored by Yuvan. Atleast they could have oursourced the background score to Yuvan. Nevertheless, hope for the best and lets wish the whole product to be a winner just like our Billa.

    5. Last but not least, as we observe closely, there is not a single scene where Ajith smiles. Looks like Aasal won't have the jovial Ajith we knew. Atleast in Billa, the Velu character provides the jovial and charming elements. It is totally missing here. I will be extremely happy if the movie prove me wrong.

Overall, I suppose each and every fan of our "Ultimate Star", oops, 'Thala' Ajith will satisfy by the trailer. I have regained my confidence (a little bit ;p) I lost before due to Saran. I'm pretty sure Thala will be delight to watch on big screen after almost one year and a half. 10 more days to go and 'Thala' countdown begins...
    Praying the Almighty...

    Aasal Songs - My Review

    Aasal - Thala Pola Varuma
    Singer: Sunitha Menon

Seems to be like an intro song. Probably, this is the first intro song ever rendered by female voice for a top hero. I have always wanted this 'Thala Pola Varuma' bit to be reused by ARRahman whenever Ajith-ARR combo happens. Looks like Bharadwaj heard my prayers first. The bit reused and it's sure to be cherished by Ajithfans.
Sunitha's voice is catchy but shadowed by the music. I can hardly catch the lyrics most of the times. I would be happy if this song comes in background with 'Thala' Ajith performs daredevil stunts or encounters his enemies as in Karka Karka from Vettayadu Vilayadu.

    Em Thandhai
    Singer: Bharadwaj

One could instantly fell in love with this situational pathos number. It seems this song is a dedication to our late Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan. Yes, indeed it brings the Thespian in front of eyes while listening with closed eyes. The lyrics are just too powerful. There are quite a number of songs specifically dedicated for Mothers. There are two songs from our 'Taala' Ajith himself - Uyirum Neeye from Uyirodu Uyiraga and Theeyil Vizhuntha from Varalaru. With Vairamuthu sir at his best in penning the lyrics, this song just a perfect dedication to all Fathers. Music is quite soft/pleasing and very soothing.

    Kuthiraiku Theriyum
    Singer: Surumukhi, Sricharan

This track is pretty ordinary eventhough both the singers are at their best. The rap bit is quite good but it fails to impress as a whole. Perhaps, I need more hearings. Guess, it fits for Sameera pretty well.

    Tottodaing
    Singer: Mukesh, Janani

Travels in a fast beat all the way. The word 'Tottodaing' will surely becomes popular after this. One needs a couple of hearings to actually like this song.

    Dushyantha
    Singer: Surumukhi, Kumaran

The beat pretty much resembles 'Yesh Ishq' from Jab We Met which is again a lift from a French song. Without much complain on that, this is an instantly likeable track. Very catchy. My all time favourite, a song from MSV-Sivaji combo that rocks even today, 'Partha Nyabagam Illayo' - reused by just lending about four lines of lyrics.
The songs starts with the tune 'Partha Nyabagam Illayo' but sooner lifts and stays as the French song beat till the end. Bharadwaj pretty careful in not spoiling the classic and he succeeded too.
The insertion of the lyrics from the classic song is just too good. Most importantly, the classic lyrics sync perfectly which just shows one thing - MSV's tunes are evergreen.
Both singers need special mention, especially the female singer. Fresh voice. The part where she sings the old song's lyrics is just too perfect and mesmerizing. I'm quite confident that this song will go well with public especially kids.

    Yengey Yengey
    Singer: SPB

This track brings back the old Bharadwaj we knew. Heavy guitar usage thoughout the song with fast beats. Reminds me of the last heavy beat from 'Sontha Kuralil Paada' from Amarkalam. I need not tell about SPB who is like the soul for this track. As an Ajithfan, I just need SPB in every album of 'Thala' Ajith's, singing atleast one song. From audio release speech, I got to know that this is indeed 'Thala' Ajith's favourite song since it's about hurdles/back-stabbing/insults a man had to face. Once again, cheers to Vairamuthu sir for penning such a touchy, yet truthful lyrics that resembles my hero's both personal and cinema life. Ajith could relate to it very well which is the obvious reason to why it becomes his favourite from the album. From now on, it's my favourite too.

    Yengey Yengey
    Singer: Karthikeyan, Chorus

Totally, overshadowed by the SPB version. But, the beat in this is just the opposite. Quite slow and perhaps, it might indicate tragedy or sorrow in the movie. Definately, listenable. Both the version will be remembered by Ajithfans for a long time.

    ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
As a whole, Bharadwaj dissapoints fans who expected a 'Kadhal Mannan' or 'Amarkalam' kind of albums. The first hearing fails to impress but a couple of hearings might make one to find this album is actually quite decent and entertaining.
The music director has came out from his typical 'melodious' image and explored a lot. Orchestration and music arrangement are remarkable and striking.

    My Rating: 2.5/5
